On Monday last, a man by the name of Braid aged about 30 years, of a genteel appearance, was apprehended and committed to Bridewell, on a charge of forgery. He had passed several checks on the different banks, to booksellers and store-keepers, which he exchanged for goods. The checks were in the names of W. & R. Bruce, R. Bruce, J. Frost, and others.

On Wednesday 30th inst., at one o'clock, at the Toutine Coffee House, will be sold by David Dunham, at public auction, the following very valuable property belonging to the estate of the late Jacob Wilkins deceased, viz:
The large spacious three story brick house, No 146 Washington Street, the house; 25 feet front and rear, both roomy and convenient, and the lot is 100 feet deep, with many afvantages.
Also the vacant lot adjoining, 28 feet front, 310 feet deep, together with a stable in the rear.

Between Elizabeth Adams, complainant, and John Adams, defendant.
It appearing that the object of the complainant's bill is to obtain a divorce from the bond of matrimony heretofore entered into for wilful, continued, and obstinate desertion, and for adultery in the party of the defendant; and is appearing, that the residence of the defendant is without the jurisdiction of the court, so he cannot be served with the process thereof -- Therefore, upon opening the matter to Nathaniel Saxton, of counsel with the complainant, It is ordered that unless the defendant appear and plead, demur or answer tothe complainant's bill, at or before the second Tuesday of September next; a hearing on the facts charged in the said bill shall be had, and a decree pass thereupon in the same manner as if the defendant had appeared, the complainant making publication of this order, conformably to the statute in such case directed.

In pursuance of an order of this honorable court, made in the above cause, will be sold at public auction, at the Toutine Coffee-house, in teh city of New York, under the direction of the subsciber, on Friday the 7th of September next at 1 o'clock in the afternoon, all that certain messuage or dwelling house and lot of ground situate lying and being in late Montgomery or fifth ward; but now the fourth ward of the city of New York, and distinguished on a map or chart thereof heretofore made by lot 96, but which is now No 29 Little George-street in the said city, and is in breadth, fornt and rear about 25 feet, and in length, on one side 179 feet and on the other 174 feet, be the same more or less together with the appurtenances thereunto belonging.
