The Metropolitan Papers are devoting considerable attention to the college regatta, at Springfield. We clip the following with reference to W. H. Buckley, of this town, who takes the "bow" in the Trinity crews.
He is 22 years of age, is five feet five inches in height, and belongs to the graduating class. He has never pulled in a race, but was a substitute in the unfortunate crew of last year, and is a natural boating man, having been a habitual single sculler for years. He is the son of an old sea captain, has rowed ever since he was five years of age, and is reported, in fact, to have been rocked in the cradle of the deep from earliest infancy. He is of very light complexion, and hardly looks like a man of 130 pounds weight. But he is very firmly knit together, and covered with muscles of the size and strength of cordage. He owns two single scull boats, and from his habit of pulling, is in good training, and is an experienced steersman.
Mr. Bulkley, we will add, is among the first seven of his class, and as such is designated to speak at Commencement.
