PAINFUL ACCIDENT
Last Thursday, Miss Clara Fay, of Barre, says the Gazette, ws at the house of her brother in Rutland, and when attempting to go hastily to the door to speak to the stage driver who was passing the house, opened the wrong door and fell down the cellar stairs, sustaining a severe fracture of the knee-pan. She remains at her brother's house, under the care of Dr. Tripp.

SUPERIOR COURT - Civil Term -- Morton, J.
In the case of John Lyon vs. H.D. Sanford, for libel, the jury returned a verdict of $15 for theplaintiff. The alleged libel consisted of issuing of a printed handbill containing derogatory to the character of the plaintiff.
In the case of John Wood vs. George B. Cobb, et al. a verdict was given under instructions, and the case went up to the higher court on law questions. The action was for damages received by the plaintiff by being knocked down and run over by a team alleged to have been driven by an employee of the defendent.
