NOTICE -- Whereas my husband, JONATHAN COGSWELL, has lately published an advertisement, stating that I eloped from him, and cautioning all persons against trusting me on his account, I wish the public may know the whole truth, that they may judge whether there is not a sufficient cause for my leaving him. The said Jonathan has treated me in a very cruel manner, by beating me, and threatening my life; he has sworn that he will kill me on the spot, if it were not for the law. His intemperance at times, makes him quite raving, and for five nights before I left him, I did not shut my eyes to sleep, as he kept a continual screaming; besides the disturbance which he made, I thought my life was in danger. As his threats and cruelty obliged me to leave him, and to seek asylum among my friends, I think it ill becomes him to complain of my elopement, and I have not run him in debt one cent since I left him, and there could be no great danger on that account, for people are not fond of trusting him.
