ATTEMPT AT ESCAPE
Sometime during Saturday night 1st instant.escaped from the jail of this county, where our readers already know be was confined to answer to a charge of killing Gideon Gray. Early in the forenoon of Sunday it was understood by the deputy sheriff that he lingered within a few miles of town. Pursuit was made, the fugitive overtaken, and again relodged in jail.
It seems to be improbable, nay almost impossible, that the accused could have escaped from his incarceration without the aid of assistants from without.

THE SEASON
On the last day of October, we had a stgorm of snow and sleet -- we believe few nights of more intense freezing occur in our mid winter, than which marked the 31st Oct. Such a night, at such a season, is a perfect anomoly in the history of our climate. We fear that considerable injury has been done to the crops of turnips and potatoes. Our cotton crops had been injured, and our tobacco crops nearly destroyed, by a frost which fell early in September - nearly amonth earlier than frost is recollected over to have fallen in this country before.

She tied a string around the neck of her child soon after it was born, strangled it, and enclosed it in the hollow of a tree, where, after a search, it was found.
