EDGE HILL

Chipping StepsOn the way to the Edge Hill battlefield, both Louise and I were compelled to go 8 miles out of our way to visit a village called Tetbury.
We went past the inn called Troubles, which may have quite a history about it, and came upon the village center of Tetbury. Tetbury is listed in the Domesday Book.
Led to a section called Chipping Steps, walking through the streets, we both felt quite intrigued by the wonderful atmosphere.
from the Tetbury brochure:
"For centuries, the large open space beyond, known as The Chipping - old Anglo-Saxon name for market - was the site of the weekly beast market and the center for two great fairs held annually on Ash Wednesday and St. Mary Magdalene's Day (July 22).
When the fairs stopped being profitable, the area was used for Hiring Fairs, known as Mops. Employers would hire farm and domestic servants. They are still held twice a year.
Chipping Steps leads to a triangular green. At the bottom there is a small graveyard where a chapel once stood. On the other side of the road and to the left of the steps is The Chipping Croft, a 17th century house with an elegant Regency balcony and a large terraced garden.
Below, Horsepool Bottom where a ducking stool was used to punish scolds and frauds.

When we reached the battlefield site, the feeling we had visited before was quite overwhelming. Edgehill overlooking Cavalier sideWell, Louise, may have been there before when she and her Mom, writer Jeanne Montague, were researching civil war sites. However, I had never visited before, yet I knew what the landscape looked like back in 1642,(no treeline), where a number of the troops traveled, (not on the main road, but through fields), where they camped, and where the battle took place.

Edgehill, Radway and Kineton is one of the most profound area I have ever visited. This peaceful valley had enough bloodshed, yet a sense of peace and forgiveness prevail.
Battles in the Skies?Reports of ghostly battles in the sky continue to this day.
Is it possible that this battle was so traumatic that it left some kind of imprint in the shockwaves of time?
