Aug 2009 added -2 postcards from and to Lulabelle - one dated 1911 to my Grandmother and one I cannot figure out the date but it was to Lula from her friend Hazell.
July 2009 - Some clues to the missing Great Aunt Lula Belle:
MYSTERY -- Help me find what happened to my Great Aunt Lulu Belle Mickle Florence Regan. She went missing between 1920-1930
LulaBelle mystery - She was living in Galesburg, Illinois when she met a tobacco salesman from England and went to Chicago.
His name was Kenneth Regan. Said she was going to divorce her first husband and marry Kenneth.
Reportedly her 2nd marriage was to Kenneth Mills Regan who later became a Texas congressman.
![]()
Last census has them both on Locust Street, Kaw, Kansas City, Missouri.
She went missing sometime after 1920. ![]()
Her family says they spoke to her when their mother was taken ill around 1924. They never reached her after that.
They put ads in the paper in Chicago - no response. Some thoughts - flu epidemic?
Kenneth Regan wasn't from England as Lula told her sister Ruby. The 1920 census says he was born in Indiana the 1930 census states he was born in Illinois.
Kenneth shows up in 1930 census Reeves County, Texas married to Bessie E. In 1930 it says his first marriage was in 1925-1926.

I have checked the IGI and often check web searches, ancestry searches.
What I still cannot find:
1900 census reference, Kenneth would be about 9 in Illinois, Indiana, New York.
1910 census reference, no Kenneth Regan there either.
Lula Belle's first husband, Earl Florence shows up with a new wife in the 1920 & 1930 census.
I plan to check historical societies, however, as it seems there were no children, and if Kenneth Regan did not do anything that a historical society might notice, they would have a passing mention.

Back of photo of an ill looking Lula Bell (front at bottom of page - standing at a home in Galesburg, Illinois) with her handwriting in back. Here is what I have deciphered from the message so far --"..Picture's are too dark. We have been here since the second of September. Saw the Minnesota State Fair. Leaving this week for Cleveland Ohio."
Ok lots of clues - Minnesota State Fair, leaving for Cleveland, but no date.
Also -- Why is there so little information about Kenneth Mills Regan online? His parentage, marraiges and divorces?
I found his draft registration filed from Kansas City, Missouri. Not a lot of info there that I can use and hard to decipher. Maybe there is a better scan somewhere online. Says he was blue-eyed, dark hair.
Says he was born in Mount Morris Illinois. (can find no census records for Regans in Mount Morris that fit and Chicago has lots of Regans with variations on the spelling but have no way of connecting them.) No info about his parents. Hard to read Chicago address. Looks like he worked for Criterion Advertising out of New York City.
so far: I tried to find any reference, address for a Nott Bank Building in Chicago.
Also looked up Criterian in New York - which was a huge company with a lot of endeavors.
Political obits have very little. What is the mystery with this man?
Were there two Kenneth Regans? - the one that married Lulu Belle and disappeared from the face of the earth with her and the other to become a congressman from Texas? Searches for the 1900-1930 only give me one Kenneth Regan - ! even tried variants of the name.....And since the Kenneth Regan who signed the draft card was from Kansas City Missouri the same time as my Kenneth and Lula was, than I can surmise it is the same person.
This is the front of the card. She does look sort of run down - maybe becoming ill?
